1. What's a Lodging House?
A Lodging House is a place for newsies fans to gather to write about the
movie, like a writing circle, and to role-play in character form.
2. Can I join? What does it take?
Sure! To be accepted, your
character needs to be well thought-out (no Mary Sues or something you took two
minutes to type out), and you need to show grammatical
competence (spell check!). The general rule is, if you apply, you'll be
accepted, but I may email you back and request a 'Re-do' if there's something
amiss or there are too many grammatical errors in your profile. Re-do's aren't
a big deal, so don't get upset if you get one.
3. Does my character have to be a newsie?
Seeing as this is a Newsie Lodging House, yes, we'd like your character to be
a newsie. However, we do have a place for friends/siblings of the lodgers, but
this is generally reserved for lodgers already established. If you would like
to make one of these characters but are not already a lodger, please contact
me (Roxy122384@[REMOVE]yahoo.com) and talk to me about it.
4. Where's Jack and Kloppman and the rest of the newsies?
Jack has gone on to be a reporter for the Sun, following in Denton's
footsteps! If you would like to have your character related to/dating him, it is possible, but you will need to work it out with
me before you send
in that character's profile, or else you'll receive a 're-do'. Kloppman's
retired, but feel free to visit him; he and Mr. Jones play cards on Thursdays.
The rest of the boys are around here somewhere!
5. What date is it in the Lodging House world?
The year is 1900, a year after the strike. As for the date, to make things
simple, we're just going by the date in the real world, only in 1900. For
instance, if it is currently November 13th, 2008, then in the Lodging House
world it would be November 13th, 1900.
6. Can I have my character 'claim' an original movie character as a
boyfriend/sibling on my application?
No, unless you are playing that original movie character as well. If you are,
then sure! Just verify that someone else isn't already playing that character
before you send in a profile for him.
7. How much time am I going to have to put into this lodging house to stay an
'active member'?
About an hour a week, minimum, probably. If the board is very active, you'll
probably want to check it every day, or every two days, and you will need to
show at least some activity each week (even if it's only a couple posts on the
board, or the beginning of a story). We understand that things in life come
up, and you can't always be around (hiatus for active members are fine), put
otherwise we expect you to at least be able to put in an hour a week of role-playing or writing. It'll be fun! Don't worry.
8. Help! I'm too lazy to take the tour, and I'm confused what each room is
for!

9. What if I want to RP with someone over IM, instead of the message board? Is
that allowed?
That's not only allowed, but encouraged! If you and someone else want to
role-play with just your characters, please do use IM. The board is mostly for
group role-playing, IM is an excellent way to get individual role-playing
going. If the RP over the IM turns out to change relationships with your
characters, though, feel free to post them on the board under the 'RP Logs'
section, that way everyone can see them! That is not mandatory, however.
10. What does that '[REMOVE]' thing in the email addresses mean?
The [REMOVE] tag placed on all email addresses linked on this site is to
protect that email address from spam bots, who will not register the tag and
simply send it as is, thus getting it back as an unregistered email account.
When sending an email to an account on this site, just do as the tag says and
remove the entire '[REMOVE]' from the address.
11. How do I send in gossip?
To send in gossip (which includes new crushes, new couples, new fights, new
drama, etc.), please send a message board private message to Mr. Jones, with 'Gossip' in the subject line.
Please be sure to use the correct nicknames of the characters, and remember,
you can cite gossip about characters beside your own, and it doesn't have to
be true! That's why they call it gossip!
12. Are there scheduled chats?
No, there are no scheduled chats. We've found that scheduled chats never seem
to work all that well, so instead of beating a dead horse, we've just decided
to stop the issue before it starts. Also, the message board pretty much
eliminates need for scheduled chats, as everyone in the group can post in it,
at any time.
13. Can I change my profile, once I've sent it in?
Absolutely! Just send an email me at Roxy122384@[REMOVE]yahoo.com with 'Profile
change' in the subject line, and copy and paste the question, along with the
new answer, into the email. Please don't forget to give me the
name of your character!
14. My question isn't answered on here/I have individual circumstances that I
need to discuss, who do I contact?
If you need additional assistance, you can contact me at Roxy122384@[REMOVE]yahoo.com, or over the message board by sending a
private message to Mr. Jones. If it's urgent, you can try to get a hold of me over AIM (cobrassayWHAT).
If I'm not online, send the message anyway - I log messages while I'm offline.
