THE ELECTRIC VENDETTA

First Broadcast: September 2, 2001

A man is found dead in a crop circle at Midsomer Parva. He is naked and found dead in an extremely odd manner. There is a tuft of hair missing; there are two large holes on his lower back; his hand has been burnt to crisp and there is an extremely terrified expression on his face. The body is found by Sir. Harry Chatwyn, who owns the land.

Barnaby and Troy are confused at the murder being in a strange place and in even stranger circumstances. They eventually meet the village ufologist, Lloyd Kirkby, who believes it is the work of extra terrestrials. He even shows Barnaby his book, and there is a picture of a man in it in an identical state to the one found in the crop.
Lloyd is taken into the police station for further questioning until a friend of his turns up and asks for him to be left alone. He is Sir. Christian Aubrey, whose wife Isobel is ill and slowly dying.

Barnaby doesn't believe that aliens are involved and doesn't even believe in them himself. However it is soon definite that some shady business is going on when another man is found, again in identical circumstances.
They soon discover that the dead man is no other than Ronnie Stokes, a thief from the town. This might be a connection to later events when the owners of the post office see Sally Boulter, the doctor's secretary, and other troublemaker, Dave Ripert, moving some treasures into Sally's house, possibly even stolen treasures.

But who is correct by their theory - alien work, or the work of some dangerous killer?
