SECOND SIGHT
First Broadcast: January 23, 2005
|
The
birth of baby Christine Kirby has caused competition between the Kirby
and the Ransom families in Midsomer Mere. The father of the baby is Ben
Kirby. The Kirbys have a power called 'second sight' which enables them
to see into the future. Landlord Jimmy Kirby uses his on gambling to get
money. Little Mal Kirby doesn't use his ability. Ben Kirby does not have
it. |
| Though John is killed during one of his drunken fights outside The Luck of the World Pub. The landlord, Jimmy, has no idea what killed him. After throwing him out, John started howling loudly and then drops to the floor dead. Bullard shows Barnaby some odd marks around the victim's skull. There are scorch marks around his scalp, caused by Max's experiments to discover more about second sight. Barnaby and Scott visit the victim's father, at Lower Mere House, a former asylum, who couldn't care less about his son's demise. |
| Scott
is out looking for Lucky Lol Tanner, owner of the betting shop. It looks
like John won a great deal of cash the morning he was killed. He bumps
into Preaching Pete Kubatski instead, who is anxious to baptize the
baby. Pete has been given a planned amount of time to restore faith and
religion in the community but with the murder occurring and the future
sightings of those with second sight, it doesn't look as if this might
happen. Barnaby accidentally runs over Little Mal Kirby, who lives on the edge of the village and is not often seen. Barnaby is sure that he rings a bell but cannot make out what is so familiar about the man. That night, Dr. Gregory Ransom is pushed down some stairs into the laboratory and Max goes missing. Emma is told of the news but then Christine starts crying loudly - Max is spying on the baby, as Barnaby discovers when he opens the back door. Max is arrested - but it doesn't look like he's the killer. Facing Barnaby is a complex case - and he might find himself relying on the ability to catch the murderer.
