PLOTS HOLES AND MISTAKES

EPISODE PLOT HOLE/MISTAKE
The Killings at Badger's Drift
Factual Error
- The shooting party leading to the fate of Bella Trace happens in June, despite the shooting season not starting till September (or August at the very earliest).
Strangler's Wood
Continuity
- When Carla Constanza's body is found, the police have no idea who she is. So how did they provide a photograph of her for the newspaper?
Dark Autumn
Continuity
- When Barnaby is playing the Aunt Sally game, he has three sticks under his arm and one in his hand when he has already thrown three! There are only six sticks allowed in the game.
Tainted Fruit
Revealing
- When Melissa is being killed, a left hand is put over her mouth, yet the hand holding the syringe is also a left hand!
Market for Murder
Continuity
- In this episode, Troy makes clear he has a fear of heights while standing on the roof of Chetwood House, despite mentioning he went on a mountain-climbing holiday in "Death of a Stranger" and having spied of Jenny Bridges from the church tower in "Blood Will Out"!
Bad Tidings
Continuity
- At the start of the episode, Fiona is wearing different shoes outside the village hall than to the ones she was wearing inside.
The Fisher King
Continuity
- Just after Gareth Heldman's murder, Barnaby and Scott tell Harry Green that they already know David Hartley-Reade ("yes, we know David Heartley-Reade ... he found the body"). Moments later, Barnaby is introducing himself to David when he goes to his house.
Sins of Commission
Continuity
- Jezebel Tripp is supposed to be left-handed - so why does she sign autographs at the start of the episode with her right-hand?

- When Barnaby and Scott step in to find Camilla Crofton while her house is being burgled, there are murmuring voices in the next room where Camilla is sitting with Sam Callaghan. In the flashback to this scene, however, neither of them speak.
Orchis Fatalis
Revealing
- When Barnaby, Scott and Bullard go to look at Madeline Villiers' body, she blinks as they enter the room!
The House in the Woods
Continuity
- When Barnaby and Jones come out of the museum, you can see The Feathers Hotel in the background. Yet the hotel is meant to be in Causton, and the museum in Midsomer Newton!
Country Matters
Continuity
- On the second day of the investigation, all the suspects refer to having seen Frank Hopkirk "yesterday" rather than two days ago, when he was alive.

- When Bullard shows Mrs. Hopkirk her husband's body, he is fully clothed. One minute later (on screen), Bullard shows Barnaby the body which is now no longer clothed, and Bullard knows all of the details about the death!

- Dora asks Barnaby if he is married, despite being introduced to Barnaby and Joyce in the supermarket at the beginning of the episode.
Death in Chorus
Continuity
- As Caroline walks to the barn to meet Sam Judd, the scenes are shown between segments of the choir rehearsing in Church, giving the impression the two events are happening at the same time. We see Caroline reach the barn while the choir are still practising. How does the murderer have time to reach the barn and kill Sam Judd before Caroline arrives seconds later?
