DEATH OF A STRANGER
First Broadcast: December 31, 1999
| A tramp is battered to death in a the woods during a fox hunt, led by villagers from the nearby area of Marshwood. The tramp is found by Linda Wagstaff during the night, who has been annoyed a lot by the man and interrupted in her cottage, situated in the middle of the woods. An arrest is quickly made by local retired Supt. Ron Pringle. A young troublemaker is taken in for the murder, but his parents are convinced he wasn't the killer. |
| Meanwhile, Barnaby is in France with his family when he meets up with James Fitzroy and his wife, Sarah, a friend of the family. Fitzroy tells them of the incident back in Midsomer and about the quickly-made arrest. |
| Barnaby
is back home in time for the second murder. This time, the suspected
boy's father has been shot in the woods. Barnaby, is put on to the case
with Troy and is led to the Tranter's home. The family own the woods and
are asked questions of the tramp but no one is yet accused of murder.
