DEATH AND DREAMS
First Broadcast: January 10, 2003
| Martin
Wroath is asleep, or unconscious, in his kitchen. His foot is tied to a
piece of string. The other end of this string is tied to the trigger of
a shotgun. A sudden movement of his foot, and Martin flies back dead,
blood all over the kitchen walls. Troy and Barnaby immediately arrive on the scene the next morning when the housekeeper, Mary May, finds the body. Mary thinks he might have committed suicide. He'd split up with his wife, whom he loved and wanted to get back with. Apart from that, Mary tells them how he was a mean man and was hardly ever paid her wages. He owed her fourth weeks' worth. |
| Barnaby visits Sarah who explains she split up with him because he was an addicted gambler and womaniser. She is now living with Gordon Leesmith and they've had a child. Sarah also enlightens Barnaby that Martin caused them trouble - which is why she thought Barnaby turned up in the first place. Apparently Martin tried to get help in Mercy Park, run by Dr. Jane Moore, an old acquaintance of Barnaby who juggles her career with being a mother to her three children - Guy, Hannah, and Ettie - ever since she was widowed. |
| Barnaby
and Troy's next stop is at Jane's. Jane is positively sure that Martin would never commit suicide, being a strong man, even though he left the cottage hospital because he missed drinking. Jane's theory is proved correct when some tests come through that Martin was poisoned before killing himself - meaning he'd have been in no fit state to commit suicide.
