Brigadier General Williams assumed his current duties as Deputy Commanding General, 21st Theater Support Command in August 2000. Prior to that, he served as Chief of Staff, Defense Logistics Support Command, Defense Logistics Agency.


General Bennie E. Williams is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from
Morgan State University in May 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, Infantry, in the Regular Army. He has a Master of Science degree in Transportation Management from Florida Institute of Technology.


His military schooling includes the Infantry Officers Basic Course, the Transportation Officer Advanced Course, the Army Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.


Brigadier General Williams has served in command and staff positions throughout his career to include: Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Maintenance Officer with the 2d Battalion, 50th Infantry (Mechanized), Fort Hood, Texas; Company Commander, Brigade S-4 and Battalion Executive Officer, 5th Training Brigade, Fort Dix, New Jersey; Installation Transportation Officer, 54th Area Support Group, Rheinberg, Germany; Corps Transportation Officer, G-4, XVIII Airborne Corps: Group S2/3, 46th Corps Support Group; Executive Officer, 507th Corps Support Group, and Deputy Commander, 330 Movement Control Center, 1st COSCOM, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Commander, 169th Maintenance Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas; Commander, 16th Corps Support Group, 3d COSCOM, Hanau, Germany; Chief of Staff, 3d COSCOM, Wiesbaden, Germany and Chief Transportation (Policy), Defense Logistics Agency.


Overseas contingency operations include deployments in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Saudi Arabia; Operation Restore Hope, Somalia and Operation Joint Endeavor, Bosnia-Herzegovina.


His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious service Medal (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal NATO Medal, Southwest Asia Campaign Medal (three Campaign Stars), Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.


General Williams is married to the former Lenora Hill, also of Baltimore, Maryland. They have four children, Kara, Gerald, Bennie Jr. and Ashley.
