Aoshi=SEXXXXXXXXXXXY!! ::hugs keychain:: Aoshi-sama wo suki ga hodo!!!!! So anyway...onward. I apologize for the semi-late update..I was too tired to write yesterday from working all weekend...into the week...always...::Grumbles:: *********************** Blue Paradise Chapter III: A Fistful of Pocky “Hey, Misao-chan, your buddy’s here again. Me thinks he likes the waitress more than the tea.” Akane teased, as Misao blushed. Akane was eighteen and of average height with short light brown hair and jade green eyes. She seemed like she was very popular in high school, the peppy type. “Hey, I’m skilled. I guess I should see to him then?” Misao said with a smile. “Eheh.. I guess. I can’t believe I envied you for getting him as a customer. That guy’s hot, but he’s so gloomy. Not my type at all!” Akane scoffed. Misao’s face darkened as she left the kitchen. ‘Even Akane-san commented on it. Aoshi-sama, are you really so miserable?’ It had been two weeks since she’d gone undercover and so far no real leads had formed. Misao hoped something came through soon, cause she REALLY hated waitressing. “Green tea as always?” she asked, as she stood before Aoshi’s table. “Aa. How’s work today?” Any leads? “Same as always.” Nothing new. Slowly but surely, Misao was breaking Aoshi’s resistance to partnering. They exchanged the same dialogue at the Shirobeko, always seeming common talk, but really information exchange. “I see. And after?” “Plans with an old friend.” “That’s good.” ******* “Okashira?!!! You’re the Oniwanbanshuu okashira now?! Jiya never told me that!” Misao exclaimed. She and Aoshi were sitting on his living room floor going over notes. “Aa, I’ve been for two years.” Aoshi replied, sipping some decaffeinated green tea. He frowned at it. It just WAS NOT the same. “Well, Aoshi-sama, I don’t know. Nothing’s come up at the Shirobeko. As much as I wish it would, honestly, waitressing sucks.” she said, nibbling on a piece of pocky. Chocolate pocky. Aoshi watched her nibble on the pocky and mentally frowned. What was he doing? He didn’t want a partner. He needed to free to pursue what he longed for most right now. In place of friends was enemies. In place of love was vengeance. A partner would hold him back from that goal to be the strongest. Misao would hold him back and get hurt. And that was the LAST thing he wanted. “Aoshi-sama, close your eyes.” He looked at her and arched an eyebrow. “Why?” “Just trust me. Come on, pllllleeease?” she asked cutely. Damn her. He always had caved when she gave that puppy dog face. He closed his eyes and sighed. As he did he felt something...against his lips. Something...chocolately. Pocky? Opening his eyes he saw that she had placed one end of a Pocky stick in his mouth...and the other end in hers. It was a test. To see who could finish the most pocky and not back away. Or to get a kiss from someone you liked. For Misao, he wasn’t exactly sure which was the case. He wasn’t sure of her feelings towards him, but they seemed the same. She still held him in high favor. He wondered.. ::Aoshi-sama, I love you!:: But that was so long ago. Surely she felt differently. He began biting the pocky. As did she. He recognized the gleam in her seafoam blue eyes. Competition. Nibble..Nibble.. Closer. Too close. He could almost FEEL her lips on his, and so he conceded and broke off his hold of the pocky. Misao finished the rest of it then frowned. “Mou, Aoshi-sama, you gave up!” she exclaimed, her cheeks reddening. But she was disappointed! “It’s silly Misao. Do you always do things like this?” he asked, wondering if she’d done this to other men. He wasn’t sure why, but the thought made him want to....hit something REALLY hard. “No. There’s never been anyone I’ve wanted to try that with.” “Then how did you know to do it?” She blinked then grinned. “I saw it in a doujinshi! It was so cuuuuuute! It was about a ninja girl who really loved this guy ninja! The guy ninja was the classic stoic, strong bishounen type who wouldn’t admit his feelings. So the ninja girl did this. It was great! It just stuck in my head.” “I see.” he replied, not sure of what to make of her ramble. “Ah, I’m sorry, Aoshi-sama. I’m a really big fan of anime and manga so I get pretty excited to talk about it when someone asks.” He just nodded. “Well, what are your interests? What do you do for fun?” “Train.” “Whaaaaa? Are you serious?” she asked. She brushed pocky crumbs off her green Hook-ups tee-shirt as she chugged a sip of Coke. “Aa..well..I also like to listen to music.” he admitted. Suddenly that tea seemed really fascinating. “What type? I love Do As Infinity and Two-Mix! And Hamasaki Ayumi! Siam Shade’s good too. Oh! And TM Revolution!” It was amazing how energetic she was at one AM. But he could tell that at this point she was just putting on a front. There were dark circles forming under her eyes. He knew better than to comment on them. ::author’s note: Ah, the man indeed has a brain:: “I listen to mostly Buck Tick.” he murmured quietly. “Oh? They’re pretty good! They sang the theme to that vampire anime! Nightwalker!” “Aa. ‘Gessekai’.” “That’s a good one! I have it on my laptop.” Then she yawned. “Well we finally came to an agreement on something, so let’s leave on a good note. Yawwnn...I’m so happy I have tomorrow off. I hope you can survive Shirobeko tea not made by me.” “I’ll survive.” “Wow, Aoshi-sama, sarcasm? I must be rubbing off on you.” “Or up to me.” he murmured, then bit his lip. He did NOT intended to say that. Apparently though, she didn’t hear it. “All right, good night Aoshi-sama.” “Good night.” And with that she left. It was as she left Aoshi wondered things like, did she walk home, where was she staying, how is she so energetic all the time... Alas, those thoughts faded as Aoshi reminded himself. He would be strong. He would to be able to honor his fallen friends. And once more fight that man. “Battousai...” he murmured. ******** “Achoo!!!” Rubbing his nose, a short man with long red hair pulled in a low ponytail and cross-shaped scar on his cheek snifflied. “Gee, Kenshin, someone must be saying something about you.” Kenshin turned to the tall man walking next to him, dressed in white pants, a black tee-shirt, and a white shirt with the character ‘bad’ on his back. He wore a red bandana and had spiky brown hair and velvety chocolate brown eyes. “You think so, Sano?” Kenshin asked. He was wearing white pants and red shirt. “Probably Jo-chan.” Sano murmured, his thoughts trailing as he and Kenshin walked down the busy streets of Tokyo. Himura Kenshin, age thirty-four, looked more like he was in his early twenties. No one would believe a man of such small frame was once one of the most lethal men in Japan. He had given up the path of killer over a decade ago, becoming a traveler. It was then that he and Sanosuke had met. It had been two years ago. Sanosuke had been a fighter-for-hire who was hired to fight Kenshin. Having a dislike for the government and the knowledge that Kenshin once worked for the government, he had bitterly fought the former assassin. Thankfully, Kenshin had talked sense into him. Sanosuke had been an orphan raised by a group known as the Sekihoutai, affiliates of the goverment led by Sagara Souzo, whose name Sanosuke took for his own. He was only nine when they were all killed by corrupt police officials who wanted to erase any link between the Sekihoutai and the government. Since then Sanosuke had trained in street-fighting and had spent years as a fighter-for-hire, known in the underworld as Zanza. He had been hired by a shady guy named Gohei, who had a personal vendetta against Kenshin for ruining his plan to dishonor the name of the Kamiya dojo. Kamiya Kaoru was the young woman who ran the Kamiya dojo, and Gohei had been kicked out of the Kamiya dojo years ago by Kaoru’s father. Now Kenshin was Sanosuke’s best friend, and the people at the Kamiya dojo were like family. There was Kamiya Kaoru, the twenty-four year old master of the Kamiya Kasshin Style. With long dark purple hair and blue eyes, she was a pretty woman and obviously in love with Kenshin. She also couldn’t cook to save her life. Which led Sanosuke to learn of her short temper. Then there was Miyojin Yahiko, Kaoru’s eighteen year old apprentice who had begun classes at the police academy in Tokyo. He and Kaoru fought like siblings and he seemingly worshiped Kenshin. He also had no sense of humor as he fumed when Kaoru teased that he would end up as a traffic cop. And then there was Takani Megumi, a doctor who has been held prisoner by Takeda Kanryuu to made opium. She had stumbled upon Sanosuke and Kenshin in a gambling hall, trying to escape. They had eventually rescued her from Takeda for good, and now she was a doctor at Dr. Gensai’s private clinic. Sanosuke had originally resented Megumi, for her opium had killed one of his close friends, but he had gotten over it. The two bickered, she calling him ‘Rooster Head’ and he called her Kitsune-san at first, now just Megitsune, his pet name for her. She was twenty-nine whereas Sanosuke was twenty-six, but that hadn’t stopped them from becoming a couple. “Oi, Kenshin....are you going to accept?” Sanosuke asked. Kenshin’s step faltered for a moment, then he continued. “Yes. I’m wondering now how to tell Kaoru-dono.” Kenshin murmured quietly. “How about “I lov..” “Kenshin! Sanosuke!” Sanosuke’s words were cut off by a young man with spiky black hair waving to them. “Yahiko, what’s up?” Sanosuke asked. “There’s a guy at the dojo for Kenshin. Some guy working for the Kyoto police.” Yahiko said, recounting everything. Being home in the break between academy semesters, Yahiko had once more took up lessons with Kaoru. “I see. We should be on our way then, de gozaru.” ******** Oreha dokohe dokohe yukunodarou Tokino akuseru fumikonde Biruno kabeni supure- no rakugaki Areha kitto wasureteta pasuwa-do ::Where am I going?:: ::Stepping on the accelerator of time;:. ::Spray graffiti on building walls:: ::They must be the password now forgotten:: Misao glanced out the window of Aoshi’s car, chewing on her thumbnail. For the first time instead of walking to the Shirobeko, Aoshi had taken his car. It was ten PM, and the sky was dark with the soft orange glow of the Kyoto city lights. Misao entered the apartment complex, walking ahead of Aoshi while he retrieved his mail. Heading towards the steps she noticed a tall boy with blonde hair and glasses leaning towards a young girl with light brown hair and brown eyes which looked upset. And being Misao, she couldn’t keep her mouth shut. “Oi oi, what’s this?” she asked, as she began climbing the stairs. Tachibana Ryoki turned to face the petite girl with narrowed eyes. “Nothing concerning you.” he muttered. “Makimachi-san!” Hatsumi said relieved. “It concerns me since Narita-san obviously doesn’t want your attentions.” Misao said, crossing her arms. “Oh? I guess there’s something to be said about comradery amongst high school girls.” Misao’s eye twitched. Visibly. “Ano...Makimachi-san’s not..” before Hatsumi could finish Ryoki gave her a glare. One which didn’t last long as he felt a fist hurled into his stomach. “I am NOT IN HIGH SCHOOL YOU STUPID KID!!!!!!!” Misao yelled, huffing. “Oh? A drop out.” “I’m TWENTY-TWO!” “Tachibana, seems you’ve upset my partner.” Hatsumi, Ryoki, and Misao turned to see Aoshi climbing up the stairs quietly. “Shinomori-san’s partner?” Ryoki whispered, glancing over at Hatsumi who looked down blushing guiltily. “Aa.” Aoshi replied, walking past them. Misao glanced at Hatsumi, then to Ryoki and grinned. “Now kid, you treat Narita-san with the respect she deserves or else next time I use my kunai.” Misao said, patting his shoulder then walking off after Aoshi. Ryoki sweat dropped. “Ko..wai..” he muttered as Hatsumi smiled. “I think she’s so cool...” she whispered, then glanced with surprising sympathy at Ryoki. “Did she really hurt you?” “Like you care. I’ll be seeing you.” he said roughly, walking away. ***** “Aoshi-sama....are you mad at me?” she asked, seating herself on his couch. “For what?” “For punching that brat.” “No. He deserved it. I don’t think Hatsumi enjoyed his ill-executed advances. He has no sense of tact.” Aoshi murmured, hanging up his coat. Misao was going to say something, but then closed her mouth and re-though her words. “That kid, Tachibana, he really likes Narita-san doesn’t he?” “Aa.” “He sure does have a weird way of showing it.” she said, retrieving a pen from her purse. Aoshi sat down next to her. “Aa.” “Aoshi-sama...have you ever acted like that?” she asked, chewing on her pen nervously. ‘Oh great, Misao. Do you REALLY expect an answer?!’ she thought. “No.” was his simple reply. Figures. “Aoshi-sama, the next bank pick up is going to be this Friday so I was thinking...” “We should stake out the Shirobeko.” Misao blinked. He had read her mind. “Agreed.” she mumbled. “You’ll work a closing shift, observe any odd behavior and report it then leave the Shirobeko.” “And? Then what?” “Go home.” he said. Misao slammed her hands on the coffee table. “Are you insane?! Do you think I’m just going to sit on my ass and wait?! I haven’t been undercover for nothing!” she yelled, standing up and attempting to tower over him as he sat. Which would have almost worked had he not stood up, successfully towering over her as ice blue and sea foam blue met. Aoshi’s eyes softened for a moment, and he closed his eyes and sat back down. “Alright. What did you have in mind?” Misao grinned and sat back down. “I figure I’ll work a closing shift and report any odd doings, then make everyone think I’ve left, sneak into Sae-san’s office and wait for the thief.” Aoshi remained silent. “Aoshi-sama, what do you think?” “It...could work. Fine, Misao. We’ll try your plan.” he murmured, closing his eyes. “Ah! Great!!!!” she exclaimed, throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him. And Aoshi was COMPLETELY at a loss. Warm......she’s so warm......I want to..... He wanted to return the embrace. To hold her close. But he didn’t. He couldn’t. Shura.....negativity. Chaos. It consumed him and only was a matter of time before it took over completely. So he simply stayed still. Finally Misao let go. “Ah..sorry. I got a little carried away. So anyway, we have two days to prepare.” she murmured. “Aa. I’ll tell Hiko.” Aoshi murmured quietly. Misao cracked her knuckles. “Okay let’s work out the details.” One hour later..... Misao yawned, rubbing her eyes. “Okay, I think we got everything covered for now. I got to report in early tomorrow so I’m going to head home.” she said softly, collecting her things. “I’ll drive you.” He said it without thinking, surprising himself. But in truth, he’d rather drive her than have her walk, and he did want to know where it was she lived. “Okay, thanks.” she said, following him as he grabbed his keys. They walked outside and Misao shivered slightly. “Hmm...I think it’s going to rain soon.” “Aa.” They got into his car and Misao gave him directions. He supposed he shouldn’t have been too surprised that Misao was staying apartment complex adjacent to the Aoiya. She mentioned during the ride that Okina was always dropping by unannounced or trying to get her to volunteer at the Aoiya. They pulled into the complex’s parking lot. “Thanks for the ride, Aoshi-sama. I’ll see you tomorrow.” “Yes.” He watched Misao walking inside. Then he heard a tap on his window. He turned to see none other than Okina standing there. “Okina.” “Aoshi, it’s been a while. I would be more formal..but we’ve known each long enough that I can speak honestly with you.” the old man said, tuning his back to Aoshi as he leaned against the car. “And what do you wish to speak about?” “You are treading on the path of destruction, Aoshi. You’re losing your pride as an Oniwanban. You must let go of your vengeance and seek inner peace.” “I would think being of the Oniwanban you would understand. I’m disappointed.” Aoshi said darkly. “Aoshi, let me say this. If you truly lose the pride of the Oniwanban, I will destroy you myself. “ ‘Even if it hurts my pretty Misao.’ Okina thought grimly, full aware of her feelings for the okashira. “I see.” Aoshi said. With that Okina walked away, and Aoshi drove off. **** Sanada Yukimura loves three things in life. Swords. Yes, being of samurai descent he enjoyed a good piece of metal. Sake. The finest liquid on the planet, a sentiment shared by one Commissioner Hiko Seijurou. And lastly...Sae. The loveliest woman ever. With his shoulder length black hair and mischievous eyes, he had a some what feminine appearance, but still managed to attract many women. Yet he only had eyes for Sae. He watched as she greeted some customers with a smile. Akane watched from afar as Yukimura glanced longingly towards Sae. She gritted her teeth in jealousy. “Akane-san, your table looks a little restless.” Misao said, striding by quickly with a tray of sake. “Hai hai!” Akane said, plastering on a cheerful face. Misao glanced at her watch. Eight pm. Three hours until closing. Hearing the bell at the door she saw Aoshi walk in. Right on time. ******** Kamiya Kaoru stood by the river, watching the fireflies. Softly, but surely, foot steps approach. Turning she saw him then, Kenshin. He had accepted, he was going to Kyoto per request of one Saitoh Hajime to assist with the case on Shishio Makoto. And she wasn’t sure she would ever seem him again. “Kenshin, it’s pretty isn’t it? The fireflies.” “Kaoru-dono...” Anyone passing alongside the road would see a couple stand there. See the man embrace the young woman. The young woman’s eyes fill with tears. And see the man walk away as the woman collapsed on the ground crying. Himura Kenshin was leaving Tokyo to return once more to Kyoto. ******* Megumi sat in pensive silence as she watched Sanosuke pack. He knew Kenshin wanted him to stay. “I’m not about to let Kenshin go alone. I promise though, Megitsune, I’ll come in one piece. Kenshin too.” Megumi nodded. Megumi cared a lot about Kenshin, for he had encouraged her to start anew. She had teased Kaoru by flirting with Kenshin, but it was nothing more. Kenshin may have help her set a new path. But Sanosuke had encouraged her to live. When she was going to kill herself, he had stopped her. “Even though I can’t go...I still want to do as much as I can. Here.” she murmured, handing him some medicine. “Just in case.” she whispered, brushing a wisp of hair from his eyes. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her deeply. “See ya round, Megitsune.” “I better, Rooster Head, or you’ll just have to bleed to death when you get into a fight.” Megumi said, clenching her fist. As she watched him walk out the door, she finally sat down and let the tears fall. *********** Darkness filled the Shirobeko as a figure in all black crept silently through the empty restaurant. Picking the lock to Sae’s office, the figure crept in and made their way to the safe. “Hold it right there.” The figure stiffened upon hearing Misao’s voice and turned around. Misao gasped softly, then narrowed her eyes. “Akane-san, so it was you.” Akane crossed her arms nonchalantly and shrugged. “And what brings you here tonight, Misao. Did Sae-san decided to plant a mole?” Akane taunted, her hand slowly traveling to her pocket. Misao pulled out her badge. “That’s Detective Makimachi to you, Akane. You’re under arrest.” Akane laughed, unamused. “Figures. Why else would that detective have paid so much attention to you. You’re his partner I bet.” Akane teased. Misao’s eye twitched. “Yes, that’s right. Now we can do this peacefully or...” Before Misao could finish Akane pulled out a small gun. Misao froze at the gun and at Akane’s cold smile. “Or you can just die.” Akane said. Aoshi stood across the street from the Shirobeko, hidden in the shadows. Worried. He wondered what was going on inside, for he was sure he’d seen someone sneaking in. He was man used to being informed, so being clueless at the moment irked him greatly. And especially with Misao’s safety in jeopardy. And then he heard the loud boom of a gun and all the blood drained from his face. Gun shots....blood everywhere....his friends falling.... “Not again...” he murmured as he ran into the Shirobeko faster than human speed, kicking the door down. He burst into Sae’s office and stopped, shocked by the sight. Three of Misao’s kunai were embedded in the wall, and Misao had Akane pinned the ground, in the process of handcuffing her. “And I am SO adding attempted homicide onto your charges!” Misao muttered, twisting Akane’s arm...painfully. It was then she heard Aoshi’s loud breathing, and dragged herself and Akane to their feet. “Aoshi-sama, just in time. We’ve got our thief.” she said with a grin, which faltered as she saw Aoshi’s expression. His face looked so damned haunted it almost scared her. “Aoshi-sama........” It was then they heard sirens. ********************* “I don’t understand, Akane-san seemed like such a very nice girl. I can’t believe...” Sae trailed off, sighing. Yukimura squeezed her hand re-assuredly, and she gave him a soft smile. After her arrest, Sae and Yukimura arrived at the police station where Misao informed Sae of everything. “Akane-san was jealous. She has...feelings for Yukimura, I mean like psychotic obsessive behavior. He didn’t return her feelings and Akane blamed you and decided to rob the Shirobeko in revenge.” “Me? But...why would she blame me?” Sae asked blinking. Misao bit her lip and noticed Yukimura blushing. “I a....don’t know! She didn’t say. She just thinks..that..it was...because you’d disapprove of a co-worker relationship!” Misao said, hoping Sae would believe her. “Oh.how terrible! Well, at least now my restaurant is safe.” Sae said, smiling softly. Yukimura in the meantime sighed in relief, and shot Misao an annoyed look. “Ahh...Yukimura-san, we don’t need Sae-san here anymore so why don’t you escort her home?” Misao suggested. “Oh sure.” “Why thank you Yukimura.” Sae said smiling at him as the two left. Misao took a relieved breath and sat in her new lucky thought chair. “Ugh, me and my big mouth! I almost embarrassed the crap out of Yukimura-san! Ah well, it looks like things are going in his favor anyway.” Misao said, and looked at Aoshi. Who was staring at her with such a piercing gaze she almost shivered. “Aoshi-sama, what’s wrong?” she asked quietly. He didn’t say anything, just frowned. Finally he spoke. “From now on I don’t want you putting yourself in danger ever again.” Misao blinked. “Eh? What are you talking about? I kicked her ass!” she said, cracking her knuckles. “Misao, don’t contradict me.” he growled. Misao’s mouth opened, then she frowned and stood up. “Whatever, I’m hitting the showers so get started on the police report.” she muttered walking away and cursing under her breath. Aoshi sighed. It was time for tea. Getting up he walked towards the break room and passed Hiko’s office when he paused. “I see....I gotta say Saitoh, I never thought you’d convince that ungrateful student of mine Kenshin to drag his sorry ass here to Kyoto. But I suppose he could be useful with the Shishio case as long as he and Shinomori don’t cross paths....Aa...I swear Saitoh if you mention anything to Shinomori I will destroy every pack of cigarettes around you...I see we have an understanding..good...” Aoshi continued, his eyes hardening. ‘Battousai..” *************************************** End of Chapter 3...
