Epilogue

Later Logan lay in bed holding the kid against him, looking down at Remys face and stroking the kids back gently. In response he got a little purr. Remy raised his head questioningly when Logan chuckled.

It explains so much, he said. The empathy. Like all those tramps you picked up in bars. Remy flushed. It was so you could be sure you couldnt hurt them. Huh? Also the way Warren screamed when your shields came down. Hes been a lot nicer to you since then hasnt he?

Well he should.

Oh yeah, no doubt. But that never stopped him before did it? And it explains how you brought me back, in Montana. And, oh God, that night on the porch. He felt his own cheeks get hot.

Remy sat up. You said you didnt remember that.

Well, I was embarrassed. What was I supposed to say? Sorry that I got drunk and molested you kid, can we still be friends? And then you took off like that, I thought you hadnt been into it at all. Well you werent were you? You were just getting a buzz from what I felt. He felt Remy stiffen in his arms.

Not exactly, monsieur. Then Remy told Logan everything about that night. Then he sat back and waited for the explosion.

Instead Logan laughed. Damn, Id been thinking about jumping you all evening. Are you sure it wasnt my desire projected onto you? Remy looked struck by the thought. It wasnt like your last empathy trick was terribly successful at convincing me to do something I utterly didnt want to. He laughed again. God, kid, between the two of us weve wasted every opportunity. Its a miracle were here now.

Oui. Said Remy, he reached up and kissed Logan. I think so too.
