Overview:
In today’s net economy, it has become very easy for a customer to buy products through the web from any of the hundreds of e-commerce websites. As a result of the competition from these large e-commerce websites it has become tremendously difficult for small businesses or individuals to sell products over the web without incurring management costs of running a big website. The solution is as simple as enabling any seller, be it a small business or individual, and any buyer, to come together and make a sale. The purpose of our group’s project is to provide this service for buyers and sellers. There already exists auction sites like Ebay, however the seller has very little control over the price of the product, as prices keep fluctuating on every bid. This service would be unique in that the seller would be given the freedom to set her own price, just as any other online store would. The group members (that’s us), could potentially benefit from this by taking a commission from the seller for every transaction executed.
Implementation:
As per the specifications, the project will be 3-tiered: client, server, and database and the nine members of the group will each be working on one of the three tiers in the following breakup:

Server (Java, Perl, etc.) :

leader)
Database (Java):

The specific implementation issues of the project will be sorted out in upcoming meetings.
