| *** VINTAGE FRIENDLIES *** Dawnay Raiders 5 - 2 St Lawrence Albion Sunday 11th Nov 2007 A very entertaining game played in very good spirits by both teams, Dawnay took to the field with 9, yes only 9 players due to a couple of late players withdrawing from the game, Dawnay adoped a 3-4-1 ( and keeper) formation and just as Fausto our 10th man arrived we conceded a goal. With heads held high, and the introduction of fresh legs half way through the half we equalised with a well worked move with a great finish from Eric Smith, closely followed by a shot from Phil which rattled the bar and looked to cross the line but in the absence of linesmen it was unable to be confirmed, so still 1-1. A slip by one of St Lawrence defenders saw Phil Norris race through and put Dawnay up 2-1, with five minutes to go before half time a very well worked move saw St Lawrence draw level, 2-2 at the half time whistle. Dawnay roused by the first half performance and amazed by the energy still in our legs decided to give it our best and our all for the second half, early on again Phil broke through again and 3-2, both sides continued to have chances and a bit of a rash challenge saw St Lawrence awarded a penalty, Gio calmly took his place on the line and a fantastic save, and then cover save from the rebound saw the game locked still at 3-2, with some awesome defending a long ball from Fausto found Keith who lobbed the keeper majestically for 4-2, with heads high, and with legs refuelled by the score line Dawnay battled and held together magnificently, and before the end Phil had capped another great game up front with his hat trick, making it 8 goals in two games. Again for man of the match, take your pick of Gio Quaglia, Paul Goodall, Fausto Collarusso, Paul Woods, Paul Bird, John Aberdeen, Eric Smith, Pete Hallam, Keith Wicks, Phil Norris...although I am going to say for his penalty save, and saves throughout the game, and constant keeping everyone alert and aware of where we should be, and keeping us going being a player short . . . . man of the match GIO QUAGLIA. |
