Midlife Crisis 0 - 4 The Mighty Strollers

Our scheduled fixture against Horely Vets couldn't take place as they had double-booked and the only team I could find that was available was The Mighty Strollers who are a nice enough bunch but the  notion of a 'Vets' Friendly goes slightly out the window when the opposition turn up with players who are in their late 30's.

However, this was to be expected and I thought I originally had  a strong enough team to give them a run for their money, but a series of last minute injuries and family commitments meant that there was  only 11 of us to take the field,  with 12 year old Alex Wikinson (son of Cat) stepping in as our sub and making his Midlife debut some 30 years earlier than he anticipated.

We played 4-5-1 which worked well enough although we weren't much a threat in the final third and their pace on the break was our undoing.

Half-time saw the score at 3  - 0 to The Strollers and as the match progressed their fitness started to tell.

Andy Mc summed up the game thus: "They were doing a lot of that running fast"

The Strollers are keen for a re-match so I will ensure that I have a few Sunday League players in the Midlfe squad just to even things up.

Man of the Match: Alex Wilkinson.  Nice touch, excellent passing, great awareness and not afraid to get stuck in.
