When using songbooks, I have 3 helpful hints:
1. Copy the lyrics out of the book into a spiral notebook
2. Work out a chord progression you can be comfortable with
(Sometimes the songbook progressions can be simplified.)
3. Listen to the songs and write the chord above the words, as I
have done with my songs.
