Reflections on my Portfolio
Throughout this semester we have read the novels Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. With these novels we were able to create several projects and essays. In my portfolio my first piece I have is the mock trial portfolio which was a newspaper on the trial of Jack Merridew from Lord of the Flies. My second piece was my rules essay which was an essay about the rules of the island from the novel Lord of the Flies. My third piece was the definition essay and this was an essay which I wrote about the word phony. My forth piece was the character essay which was an essay which I wrote about who I wanted to be if I had the chance to. My fifth piece in my portfolio is my final project for the novel Catcher in the Rye. My sixth and final piece in my portfolio is an essay based on father daughter relationships from the novel The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.
Of the several pieces of writing in my portfolio I would have to say that my best piece would be my Rules essay. The reason why I feel my Rules essay is the best is because in that essay all of my ideas are put into five well developed paragraphs. My organization makes the essay flow with each other paragraph and my writing just seemed strong and confident. It was just a well written piece and I feel that it was well developed essay. I used proper grammar, vocabulary and my thesis statement supported my whole essay. I just felt very secure of this piece of writing. For those reasons I feel that my rules essay is my best piece of work.
If a had to chose my weakest piece of writing I would have to say it was my definition essay. The reason I feel that this essay was my weakest writing was because I really couldn’t focus on several different meanings for the word phony. I just couldn’t concentrate much on the word phony. The essay was somewhat repetitive because I really didn’t have nothing to say. So it was just boring and didn’t go anywhere. So for those reasons I feel that my definition essay on the word phony was my weakest.
This semester I have learned many things to essay writing. One thing that i will remember probably the most when writing and essay is the sandwich format. By using the sandwich format I will be able to develop and well thought out essay. It will be well organized and have plenty of writing to support my thesis statement for the essay. The only thing to worry about is grammar and spelling when using the sandwich method.
