The Exhaust Page

Without a doubt, one of the first aspects of performance modifications owners tend to focus on is upgrading the oem exhaust system from the AW11. Unfortunately, upgrading an exhaust will not bring output gains one would expect from the 4AGE.An engine without much extensive mods, upgrading exhaust and manifold should net you at most around 5hp.The 4AGZE on the other hand, probably will bring in more since it uses forced induction. If you plan on customizing your setup(which I recommend), use 2 1/2" pipes for the 4AGZE, and 2 1/4" pipes for the 4AGE.

HKS Exhaust TipThe HKS unit is considered by many as a rather expensive system. It has dual muffler tips, and is rather heavy for the aw11. The little performance gain isn't worth the price to many owners. Although it does carry a rather large price tag, the unit does still have HKS quality. You can still get this system anywhere. A couple of places are Toysport and Cyberauto Our new pic is courtesy of Ronald O. Thanks for your contribution.

EBN exhaust This is one of my favorite exhaust made for the AW11 of all time. Though I have not personally seen the 304 Speed by 5 Zigen. It's a bad looking exhaust that carries a hefty price tag. The muffler looks really small. You can get an importer like SpeedLab and Taka Kaira to get it for you.

JanSpeed exhaust This is probably one of the most talked about exhaust among aw11 owners. Supposedly, it provides the biggest gain among all exhaust. True or not? No dynos? The problem is that you can't get one of these here in the US. Nothing for the cat. You have to import it from the UK. You get an importer like Demon Tweeks, UK to get it for you. Please visit Jorn Innset's great writeup on the JanSpeed exhaust at this link The photos are courtesy of Eivind Andersen.

5 Zigen 304 Speed The 304 Speed exhaust is not as well known as the HKS and Janspeed units. I haven't seen the exact unit yet, but it's probably one of the better looking exhaust out for the mk1. The cannister muffler is definitely the new trend. Whether the muffler is angled or not, I do not know. I highly suggest that you try to get a US performance shop to get this for you or you'll pay $150-$200 in shipping from Japan. Give the store the part number and cross your fingers. Then send me a pic!

TRD Header The much disliked TRD header is probably the one mod people have a strong negative response to when mentioned. Most claim they provide no increase at all, but that's based on David Aucott's dyno's. I would definitely advise that you check his site out first before buying one. Just don't expect any increase without mods such as a nice intake (I recommend the powermax) and a nice free flowing exhaust. Please note that a free flowing exhaust helps optimize any mods you have. Last but not least, use a new Toyota exhaust manifold gasket because the TRD one will break on you early.

Trust Header Another rare item to add to your list. The Trust header. The one pictured is obviously not the one for the aw11, but it's from the same Trust NA header series. Maybe a Greddy dealer can point you in the right direction. As of right now, I don't have the part number, but it's in one of my Option magazine. I'll bring it up in a couple of days. I am very curious on how this header compares to the current TRD header. Anybody else?

Trust Header Trust Header Trust Header HKS made a header for the AW11? Yes they did. But it looks like you had to buy it through TRD years ago. I wonder how this one compares to the new TRD header. The pics are courtesy of Alex Y. When I hear from Alex on performance impressions, I'll let you guys know. Thanks Alex.
