'Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be an MSAC diver was very heaven..'

William Wordsworth (slightly misquoted)
Photos taken on the SS Thistlegorm 3rd April 2004
The smaller gun...
An MSAC diver explores one of the loco engines still welded to the deck of the ship
The most taken shot when diving the Thistlegorm - the main gun. No photographer can resist this one
The Thistlegorm was carrying a cargo of trucks, motorbikes and even locomotives to help Montgomery's war efforts against Rommel. The ship sank in October 1940 after being almost blown in two by a well aimed bomb from a German Heinkel. The Heinkel's supposed target was the Queen Mary, then being used as a troop carrier. With the Queen Mary nowhere near, the Thistlegorm was chosen as an alternative.. Now she provides a comfortable home for thousands of fish...
...and thousands of corals
This little feller kept me company on my deco stop, on my second dive. He was valiantly swimming against a strong current, while I valiantly held onto the shot line!
