TRAINING YOUR TROOP
It is very important that the troop is trained before the cookie sale begins.  The girls as well as their parents must understand the product line, sales techniques, safety rules, and troop goals and expectations.

The first portion of the cookie sale begins in early January, so it is strongly suggested that training begin in December at the latest.  There are many aspects of the sale such as safety, manners, and dressing for the weather that can be covered at this time without even mentioning Girl Scout Cookies specifically.  There are lots of creative ways to go about this training...
Put your imagination to work!
Role playing is a fun and effective training method.  Here are some possible situations and scenarios; they can be modified for different age levels, and I'm sure you can think of others:

1. You want to go around your neighborhood to sell cookies, but your mom isn't available to go with you.

2. You go up to a house to sell cookies and the person who answers the door says "I don't want any cookies".

3. You're delivering 7 boxes of cookies to your neighbor.  She gives you a $50 bill.

4. What is the best way to get people to buy cookies?

5. You're going door to door selling cookies.  It's very cold outside and the woman who lives down the street invites you into the house.

6. Your customer asks you what kind of cookies you have and how much they cost.

7. You're selling cookies at the Booth Sale.  People are walking by but not buying anything.

8. How can you stay safe while selling cookies?

9. You're selling cookies door to door, and the man who's buying the cookies wants to pay you when you take the order.

10. Your customer asks you what you're going to do with the money you make selling cookies.

11. You're at a Booth Sale and someone wants to try a Lemon Cooler.

12. You go up to a house to sell cookies, but there is a large dog barking and you get scared.  (This is an interesting one; a good answer would be "If you're scared by a dog, person, etc, don't sell there.  It's more important that you feel safe than that you sell a box of cookies!")
Here's another fun suggestion:

Work with the girls to plan a tea party;
they may want to invite a special woman in their life as their guest.
You could also combine this fun time together with
a training for parents as well as for girls.
For refreshments, use your sample box
of one of this year's delicious Little Brownie cookie varieties.

Girls and adults will then have both a fun memory AND
direct knowledge of one of the items they'll be selling!
Both GSSP (Council) booklets "Getting Ready for the Cookie Program" and "The Cookie Program Troop Cookie Manager Manual" contain outlines for topics that need to be covered when training your troop.

Little Brownie Bakers materials and website are great resources for training ideas.  Their website offers a complete training outline, full of games and activities:
LBB Troop Training Ideas

Little Brownie Bakers are also the best source for everything you need to know about the product line.  In addition to written materials you've received, get recipes and
more information than you'd ever imagine there could be about each of the eight delicious cookie varieties available this year:  LBB's 2005 Cookies
Most importantly,
HAVE FUN
while sharing
all the information
every Cookie Program participant needs to know!
