The wood carving on the left was carved at the seige of Vicksburg by Charles Beckelshymer, a career Union soldier notorious for his Civil War activities in the Jacks Fork area. Until the day he died he slept with a gun for fear of his neighbors who threatened their children with "Behave or Old Charley will get You!" It's ironic that today he is one of the direct ancestors of the same line of Stoops (Joseph) that hid from him one winter in a lean-to on the Jacks Fork by the Mill.
