Last week: A 5-foot-8 junior, Paulk combined for 35 assists as the Cougars
beat Temple Christian in three games and Geneva in four to win the Class 1A, Region
2 title.
Paulk, 16, and her teammates will appear today in a state-tournament semifinal at
the Lakeland Center.
A quick five with Paulk:
How did you feel you played last week? "I think our team as a whole had a much better
week. We can go up and down. As a team last week, we worked really well together."
Where will you be two years from now? "Hopefully, at college. I know where
I want to go, but not if I will. MIT. I want to study neuroscience and genetics.
I'm not much of a people person. I could never be a doctor."
Was this run to the state tournament expected? "I think we've really been
blessed this season, especially with our coach (Laurie Haines). She's been fabulous.
Our team is really connected."
You split setting duties with Stephanie Quinn. Do you have different strengths?
"The main thing is we stay on the court the whole game. I think Stephanie's a lot
better. We usually set different people. It's getting used to the people I'm passing
to."
At the end of a volleyball season, where are you the sorest? "I think it
varies with people. For me, it's the knees because I had a lot of knee problems."
