Lady Cougars Take Title from Host Crusaders

Saturday, the MIC Lady Cougars Volleyball team traveled to St. Petersburg for a 4 team volleyball tournament at host Canterbury School of Florida.

In the first match of the day, MIC swept the Hernando Christian Lions of Brooksville, 25-12, 25-21, and 25-14. Hernando was impressive in their warmups with strong spiking. But they could not handle the onslaught of the Cougar's serves, The cougars Aced the Lions 18 times in the match as well as serving their highest serve percent of the year at 93% for the match. The cougars quickly found the passing weakness of the Lions as they notched 28 kills. Winning this match placed the Cougars in the title match against the Canterbury School Crusaders. In the title match, MIC took the home team Crusaders in 3 games, 25-18, 25-22 and, 25-13 to bring home the championship trophy! The home court advantage was evident for the Crusaders as they fought tough in the first game and a half but were no match for the Cougar offense as the cougars notched an impressive 34 kills and 7 blocks for the 3 game match.  Stats for the match: Aces: Stephanie Quinn: 6, Haleigh Campbell: 2, Sarah Becker: 2; Kills: Erica Robes: 8, Stephaine Quinn: 7, Bailey Scott: 6, Kacie Paulk: 6; Assists: Stephaine Quinn: 17, Kacie Paulk: 12; Blocks: Erica Robes: 4; Digs: Stephaine Quinn: 14, Kacie Paulk: 11, Jenny Stanton: 9, Haleigh Campbell: 8, Sarah Becker: 5.

The Cougars record is now 10-0.

JV Lady Cougars Win the Cougar Invitational

Saturday, the JV Lady Cougars also won their invitational! MIC hosted the tournament including Edgewood and Covenant Christian. In the first match of the day the Cougars lost to Edgewood. They won their second match against Covenant to close out pool play. In the semi-final round of playoffs, the Cougars beat Covenant again, earning the chance to redeem theselves against Edgewood in the finals. And redeem themselves they did! They Cougars defeated Edgewood to earn the trophy and the title. Kristin Cox was voted the tournament MVP. Amber Hubert and Kayla Strieter were named to the all-tournament team. Way to go Cougars!
