)I think it's an injustice that action films don't ever get nominated for Best Original Score. Sure, I'm okay if they don't get Best Picture, Best Director, or Best Screenplay, but The Rock certainly deserved a nomination for Best Original Score. When is Hans Zimmer going to get the recognition he deserves? Together with Nick-Glennie Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams, they composed eight enthralling pieces of music, including four that stand out. The first of the four I'm referring to is 'Hummel Gets The Rockets', which opens the film with suspenseful, high-adrenaline music. The second is 'Jade', a totally contrasting romantic score showing great diverse ability. The third is the playful 'Fort Walton - Kansas', which is brilliantly arranged. And the fourth is 'The Chase', back to the thrilling rock, but a different theme from the first, and still equally captivating.
Back to the thing about Zimmer. Look, the man has done the music to films like The Power of One, As Good As It Gets, Rain Man, The Lion King, Thelma & Louise, Crimson Tide, A League of Their Own, Driving Miss Daisy, Twister, Backdraft, Green Card, Broken Arrow, and so on and so on and so on. You could almost say his music saved some of those films. His score almost has the power of a second director, and this was acknowledged by John Woo.
