For a while I had no idea what the difference was between what you think is a great film, and one that you really liked. After I watched Gandhi I think I finally found my answer.

Gandhi is an example of excellent filmmaking. Although it is almost flawless, it doesn't have the impact of films like Schindler's List, which are entertaining, devastating, artistic, and personal all at the same time. Gandhi is perhaps simply reflective.

That is not to say I didn't like the film. I thought it was a great film, and I liked it. But it's not one that I would want to watch again and again.
