I've read one review that said that it is almost pointless to write one of Casablanca, since it has been done so many times before. That's my excuse for not writing one.
Anyway, Curtiz didn't expect this to be a hit at all. Then it turns out to be one of the most popular films of all time. Scene after scene experienced viewers would say, "Hey, I've seen that scene/setting/angle/ before." You probably have. So many films, great and preposterous, have borrowed from this timeless classic made and set in the Second World War.
