| GRIFFITH'S VALUATION 1848-1864 The Irish Valuation Office conducted it's first survey of property ownership in Ireland from 1848 - 1864. This survey became known as "Griffiths Valuation" after Richard Griffiths who was the director of the office at that time, The survey was used to deturmine the amount of tax each person should pay towards support of the poor within their law union. This involved determining the value of all privately owned lands and buildings in rural as well as urban areas to work out the rate of each unit of property could be rented each year to calculate the amount of tax that should be paid, This database indicates the information on the Cassidy Surname and the area they lived. |
