| June 26, 2003 at the House of Blues--Anberlin, Autopilot off, The Movielife, and Further Seems Forever Before I delve into how much I enjoyed this show, I would like to say how much I absolutely love the House of Blues. Besides having the best bathrooms in town, the House of Blues has a great staff and a gorgeous atmosphere. You have to love the bouncing floorboards! It is so wide open and offers a certain ambience that other places such as the Riviera could not hope to imitate. The show started unusually early with Anberlin starting their set promptly at 6:15. This is one band that is definitely going to go places. Not only did I find it hard to accept that this was an opening band, but they have only been playing shows for a year! I rarely buy cd's at shows but I snatched up their cd at the merch table. So far standout tracks are Cold War Transmission and Ready Fuels. Next at bat was Autopilot off (The first punk band I ever saw live!). The only complaints I have about their performance was 1. it was too short and 2. They did not play "Silver Star". Later on I took a pic with Chris, the guitarist. He was more than happy to hang out and chat--Pretty good lookin too! Then The Movielife. Wow! High energy and a good crowd that reciprocated-(with a few exceptions--boo to charlotte russe Bitch and the three Skankin pickles). Geez these guys are so appreciative for what they have. Bashful Brandon turned red when he couldn't play Happy Birthday, and despite mockings from crowd members and Further Seems Forever, Vinnie delivered a cute dialogue about what some of the songs mean to him. Loved their performance of Kelly Song, 10 seconds too late, and that one song that Lorrie and I couldn't figurue out the title. They may not be the most publicized of Drive Thru's bands (THank GOd!) but they are definitely the best. Much to our dismay, the fans turned fickle and ran for the exit after the Movielife was over. Hey lil kids where ya going??? Who wouldn't wanna see Further Seems Forever??? They had a shabby turnout, but it was quality not quantity. In a sea of emo driven testestorone, we jammed to a great mix of oldies and stuff from the new album such as "On legendery" THey also did a pretty rad cover of a Bjork song. They closed out the night with "The Sound"--this is just such an awesome song! So we left with ears buzzing and took the trusty El back to the sultry suburbs to meet the rest of the crew at The view for some late night dinner. This was the last concert for a long time and it was definitely worth it!. |
