NEW YEARS EVE
MELBOURNE, VICTORIA
After incessantly debating all day what we were going to do for New Years
(there was even talk of hopping on a plane and going up to Brisbane!),
we went to a party at my friend Genevieve's house.
Genevieve was in a few of my classes up at the University of Queensland
and I haven't seen her since then.
We've kept loosely in touch via email, and I knew she was from Melbourne.
She actually lives in Sydney these days, but was home for the holidays
visiting her parents and  holding a little New Year's get together.
She just got back on Christmas Eve from an around the world journey herself.
(including most prominently stops in Iceland and France).
At midnight, everyone had sparklers, which caused the smoke detector
to go off exactly on 'happy new year'.
After Genevieve's get together, the boys and i were debating going out or going home.
After deciding on home, we went to the train station for the last train.
As expected, it was totally packed.
I hopped on...but Michael and Michael didn't quite make it.
The train pulled away.

This would have been totally fine if
a.) it wasn't the last train and they could hop on the next one, and
b.) i had keys to the house
We live about an hour from the city center, so there was no way they could afford a cab back.
Therefore, I spent the night sleeping on the verandah.
And it was freakin' cold out on new years.
Half way through the night i stole a bunch of the clean washing off our clothesline
and made myself a little bed of sheets and towels.
The boys found me at the front door in fetal position at 8:30 A.M. the next morning.
