WANAKA, OTAGO
Wanaka was the only place in new zealand
that we HAD to make a reservation for -
because we just showed up one night
and we couldn't even find one bed available.
this is a big ski town (although i didn't got skiing here)
and because they want to preserve wanaka's small-town feel -
they refuse to build any more accommodation.
dave loves to talk about how he spent countless nights
living out of his van here while on his 'homeless' stint in new zealand.

But i have a warm spot in my heart for wanaka
because dave and i had our first (and only?) real date here.
we went to Puzzling World -
new zealand's original 3-dimensional maze and illusion center.
it took us over an hour to find our way out.
we also got insanely sick in the Tilted House -
built on a 15 degree angle.
neither of us could shake the headache for the rest of the day.

the other great occurrence in wanaka was going to see
one of the only live music performances i attended while out of the states -
Salmonella Dub self described as "blend(ing) a hybrid of skankin roots reggae,
low rolling dub bass lines with drum n bass breaks in a distinctly Pacific style."
