TE ANAU, SOUTHLAND
Te Anau was our springboard for heading to milford sound
and fjordland national park -
which happened to be closed due to avalanche on the day we arrived.
this postponed our plans for a couple of days, but the road eventually
re-opened,
and we happily continued on our way.
on the way back through (after milford/fjordland),
we got caught in an incredible snow storm,
which kept us stranded in Te Anau for another night once again.
we stayed at a place called Barnyard Backpackers -
a cute little hostel that was family-run.
They also hosted horse trekking,
and i had my first experience on a horse EVER.
That moment can be summed up with the following true-to-life conversation:
SULA: 'Mick, are you OK? '
MICK: 'What's OK?'
SULA: 'Are you confident? Are you comfortable?
MICK: 'Then NO!'
SULA: 'What's the matter?'
MICK: 'I'm on a horse!'
