QUEENSTOWN, OTAGO
Paul was really antsy to get to Queenstown,
best known for it's crazy adventure sports
(skydiving, bungi jumping, power boating, canyon swinging
and most importantly SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING!)
He dreamed of spending countless days on the slopes
learning how to snowboard.
Unfortunately, August had seen New Zealand with the least amount
of snowfall it had had in years =
crap conditions, lots of manmade snow, and LOTS of icy slopes.
didn't matter though -
we were determined to get out there and leave our mark.

There are 2 main ski resorts in queenstown -
Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.
we hit them both.
The Remarkables offered runs that were a bit more challenging,
but i liked Coronet Peak because it offered more options
to the beginner and intermediate skier.

Finding accomadation in Queenstown was a little bit of a challenge.
it seems that for about 3 weeks all the national Telecom payphones were not working,
so we were limited to making calls at businesses and information centers
that were so kind as to lend us an ear.
however, with a no pay phone and only local call access,
our only options for queenstown were backpacker hostels that had 800 numbers.
Alas, we ended up at the Bungi.

Bungi Backpackers is run by a pair of traveling crazy cats,
Dan, a native kiwi, and Mitzi, his British better half.
Both in their 20s, they've been running the Bungi for a couple of years now.
And in the kitchen scrubbing the exhaust fans with a toothbrush
was the shining star of the Bungi -
my very own red-headed, bearded boy from Long Island, Dave.
He would probably self-describe himself as a kinky, muppet lesbian trapped in a man's body,
but i like to think of him more like a pirate or a viking
(you know, when i'm alone, at night... in my bed...).
However, he really is just a hippie,
who spends every waking moment twisting his dredlocks.
