BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND second trip to brisbane - this time for a month at Chez Lyme, otherwise known as, the apartment of nicki and david. nicki was my first every australian friend back in 1996. we used to work together with michael (my melbourne flatmate). i always feel completely comfortable staying with them and as nicki accurately states - "it always feels like you have never left. you slot right into our lifestyle, and we love that." we spent many a weekend afternoon at the pokies (slot machines well associated with Brisbane, which affectionately result in the Queensland capitol being nicknamed
'Bris-Vegas').
i also spent plenty of time chillin' with the brisbane lesbian mafia. amanda, jodie, and lani flew in for a few weeks from perth, and even alicia came over for a few days (= fun for mick). this was the first time i saw all the 3 whimp cousins together (karley,
lani, and jodie). we went to Brisbane favourites Rick's and The Wickham
for drinks. we also spent an afternoon in Redcliffe at the kitsch-y diner, The
Fish Bowl -
very reminiscent of Yaffa Cafe, one of my favourite NYC hangouts. The partying got serious on the Beverly Hills 90210 reunion
viewing night - where too much champagne lead to stair surfing and naked dancing. i shouldn't even mention the 10 pin bowling recovery the next day (10 pin bowling, in australia, must be specified from lawn bowling). i didn't even break 100. Megan and Jodie were the respective winners of our mini hang-over tournament.
