HOBART, TASMANIA
Keith had a geohabitat conference in Hobart
so we used that as an excuse to head on down to Tasmania.
We stayed at a funky hostel called The Pickled Frog,
which was cool because it had a wooden interior
and fireplaces in the common rooms,
so you felt like you were in a ski lodge.
Plus, it had internet computers and a bar.

Hobart is the home of the Cascade Brewery (Australia's oldest)
and the Cadbury Chocolate Factory
(we did tours and tastings of both -
we had enough chocolate samples to last us a week!).

Mt. Wellington dominates hobart offering views of the whole city.
The Female Factory was where female repeat offenders and their children
were prisoned (the men were sent to Port Arthur),
and i spent a morning wandering through the ruins.
We also spent an afternoon at the Bonorong Wildlife Park
petting the kangaroos and observing the tasmanian devils.
About an hour from hobart is Mt. Field National Park,
which had a great little 2-hour bushwalk past 3 different waterfalls
and at dusk we saw heaps of wild wallabies.
We also went to the headquarters of the Australian Antarctic Division,
which had great interactive displays and REAL stuffed animals.
