MARDI GRAS!
SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES
So once again i found myself in Sydney
hanging out with Avril, Jo and Daniel and attending
the annual Mardi Gras Parade,
the Australian version of Gay Pride.

I was lucky enough to be invited to march
with the Women's Library in Newtown,

and we proudly strolled clad in our purple togas
(some of us not so clad).
Not only did i march,
but i got to ride the whole route in the back of the ute (pick-up),

waving to the adoring public.
i was a superstar for a day.

About 80% of the floats had some sort of anti-war message
either subtle or overt.
Unlike in the states,
where it is supposedly said
that about 70% of Americans support a war on Iraq

(i don't know who they are surveying),
here significantly less than half the Australians do.
And they are not too thrilled with John Howard right now
(the Australian prime minister)

for supporting our own Alfred E. Neuman look alike -
George Dubya.

I also went to see the classic early 90s alternative band The Breeders
who were playing their last Australian show of the tour in Sydney at the Metro.
It was great! They played every song from Last Splash that i wanted to hear
and they even played their ever famous theme from
buffy the vampire Slayer.
apparently, they have even appeared in an episode.
