A DAY WITH MICHAEL CHALMERS' PARENTS
melbourne, victoria
Michael #2's parents, Cam and Kerry, came down from Newcastle, NSW to visit us.
We took a drive to the Mt. Dandenong Observatory to get a great view of the city.
This other family that was there rented this really funky car,
which Cam and Kerry took some photos in front of.
We saw tons of my favorite trees: tree ferns.
Then we attempted to go to the William Ricketts Sanctuary,
but it was just closing when we got there, so we only got to see
a few of Ricketts sculptures which were set up in a little cafe outside the sanctuary.
Kiln-fired clay sculptures of Aboriginal figures are discreetly set
among rocks, fern trees and Mountain Ash.
These sculptures are an expression of Rickett's philosophy -
that all people need to act as custodians of the natural environment
in the same way as Aborigines, the inspiration for much of his work.
