| The Lily Pond at Millcreek Park It sits there, in the middle of a city - Amid the trees and rocks Waiting for nothing - living and breathing from day to day. A quiet pond - one filled with and surrounded by life. Mallards floating on the surface Or standing on the shore with their young ones. Koi swimming beneath the surface - Turtles - snapping and other - under and above Bluegill of all sizes and ages - And one lonely carp - swimming as if King of the Pond. What else lurks beneath the surface I do not know. Above the surface exists another realm of wonder. Dragonflies and damselflies - Rusty red ones, Pearlescent white ones with black wings, Small, pale green ones - who are fond of humans. And off in the trees are other creatures - Squirrels, chimpmunks, birds and crows - All making their presence known - Chirps of chipmunks and squirrels, Songs of small winged creatures Raucous caaaws of big black crows - All exist together creating Natures Symphony. Walking round the Lily Pond on a perfect Summers Day - Dappled shade and sounds of God I can only wonder why oh why no Lily Pads! by Mickey Clees July 12, 1999 Millcreek Park Youngstown, Ohio |
