Ulysses
Former Captain, WK / Right
Handed Batsmen / Aggressive top order sledger - After some good off season
recruiting, this mainstay of The Conts has put his hand up to open the batting
this season (with varying degrees of success). Comments made from other team
members about only being in the team because he is organising the Canberra
Carnival have not yet been confirmed.
Wristy
Right Arm
Very Medium Pace / Right Hand Bat: A talented top order batsmen, Snapper is
generally a quiet, non assuming lad, but feed him a few rumbos (frigate??) and
all that changes, hence the nickname... watch out for the 'Silly Pommy Idiot"
call that he made famous when asking Phil Tufnell for his autograph.
Gaimax
Known for
taking the new ball as a last resort and fielding in close to "irritate the
batsman". Gets more ducks than Glenn McGrath but has proof that his bowling can
take wickets - Carnival Trophy reads (and I quote): "Most Wickets Customs
Carnival Gold Coast 2002"
Steam Train
Known for his
ability to follow through on an almighty swing at the ball. Certainly six if
contact with the ball was ever made. Knocks beer's down some what faster
than his bowling but is always ready both on and off the field for some slips
action.
Contry
Right arm, off the pitch
bowler/both handed batsman. Strikes fear in the hearts of wicket keeping team
mates with his un-predictable bowling – rumoured to be the reason Snapper
Daniels gave away the wicket keeping game. As a batsman, he has been known to
give opposition slips fielders head colds from his lusty (and usually
unsuccessful) swings of the willow.
Spiral
Right Arm
Slightly Off Spin / Right Hand Bat: A big hitting batsmen capable of taking the
long handle to mediocre bowlers. Unfortunately most of the blokes in this
league are slightly less than mediocre so who knows what could happen.
Flopp (Fountain)
Specialist in nothing, but will
have a go at everything. Not too sharp between wickets so prefers to smack
boundaries rather than wasting energy running between wickets. Bowls a lot of
pies, if any wickets are taken it’s usually due to inferior batting rather than
the bowlers good form. Needs to improve sledging, something that can always be
worked on.
Swifty
Captain, Lightning Fast Right
Handed Bowler / Aggressive Right Handed Batsmen. When bowling last week heard
whispers from the slips that sounded like can't bowl, can't throw... but his
100% captaincy record, ability to clean bowl talented opening batsmen and hold
the innings together by not throwing his wicket away should hold him in good
stead this season.
Sparky
Left Hand Leg Spin / Right hand Off Spin Bowler, Right Hand Batsman, 2nd / 3rd Slip specialist. Elder statesman in the squad, trying to relive previous sporting achievements through the youth and talent of the other players in the side. Loves a quick single (to get off strike) regardless of whether the ball has gone to hand or not. Quick in the field but no longer in the mind, which often leads to comical fielding errors. Most likely to be fined each game.........
