The Webmaster's Zone ~ Sub-sections
First, before anyone else says it, it is sexist and politically incorect to say, think or write Webmaster, but the alternative?
Without dwelling on the seriousness of definitions, webmasters are a diverse group of people. For myself, computers and the internet only started in 1986, when the latest thing was a Pentium, at least a 100, which I still have, and Windows '95.
I'm moving to GNU/Linux now, to learn more useful stuff. Like conservation, it begins at home, ethical garbage disposal, water use, so why not an ethically better software. Perhaps we can defeat the monster software market with common sense and maximise participation in this new communication and information resource, the World Wide Web.
So what about those Webmasters then you may ask? Students, teachers, amateur and pro, it has become easier to get on in the www. Sites offer build your own for free space and accounts to use e-mail. So people have a go and have their say, expressing their interests, offering information and ideas, artistic material, simple contact and information for special interests, for fun and most likely, sometimes out of boredom.
I support a free web along the lines of open source programming. Instead of elite'
participation we could have maximum participation.
We could surf with a 286-486 if we wanted, or less as small handheld devices now demonstrate. Remember Charlie Chan and the wrist phone or Maxwell Smart of Get Smart fame with the improbable shoe phone?
Why do they (the giant multinationals and retailers and most of all, those renegade advertisers, those psychology graduates of satanic forces and brainwashing) want us to feel bad about that hot stuff they sold us two years ago,
when the latest model arrives?
Upgrades?
You'd be better off buying a new one, they say.
The old one is often yet to be used to it's potential. There's a lot of miles left in the old bus!
'Ya beginning to sound like my grandpop and his old car!
