I am in Class 5 at Tagaqe District School and it is really different to Woodleigh but fun. The work is quite hard because lots of the kids are older than me but I like making lots of new friends and finding out about them. Some of my friends have a long way to get to school and have to get up really early. We keep a toothbrush and toothpaste at school so we can clean our teeth after lunch.
The teachers can smack us if we are naughty. Sometimes my teacher uses a ruler or just her hand or a belt thing. I have been smacked once when the whole class did something wrong but it didn't hurt too much.

Someone showed us how to make fire with 2 sticks so I have been trying it at home. I can make smoke but so far no fire but I will keep trying. We have to go back to NZ in 3 weeks and I will be really sad to leave Fiji. |

I really like school and am learning lots of Fijian words. My teacher says I can read Fijian really well and she made me read to the Head Teacher to show him. We don't do much playing at school because the field gets muddy all the time so there's not too much to do at lunchtime. I've made lots of new friends. Riley and I are the only 2 white kids at school except there is one boy in my class who is albino so he looks white too.
On Monday mornings we have assembly which is really boring because most of it is in Fijian and we have to sit on the floor and just listen and pray alot.

At Pacific Harbour we got to swim in a pool with a cave in it and there was another pool that looked like a big cooking pot. In Fiji a long time ago they used to be cannibals and eat their enemies. I was a bit scared in the chief's house when he pretended to be angry and shouted really loud. |

Sometimes I go to kindy here but Mum has to come with me so she gets a bit bored. They don't have many toys or anything to play with but they have lots of books so Mum reads them all to me. We had a cyclone and lots of trees fell down. Me and Riley couldn't get to sleep because it was so noisy. We have frogs at our house and if we go out somewhere and come home when it's really dark there are lots of them on the road and some get squashed.
Our cat Lucky likes to catch lizards and to scare away any dogs that come onto our beach. I had a ride on a horse when we were at the beach. My horse had excema like I used to get on my legs. W e have a lali which is a Fijian drum and I get to drum on it to say it's time for dinner. |
