Flynn's 5th Birthday. At Montessori they have a very cool way of celebrating birthdays. The months of the year are laid out on the floor in a circle, with a candle in the centre representing the sun. The child stands next to their birthday month, holding the globe. The teacher talks about all the things that child has achieved each year, starting from when they are born. When she's finished talking about a year, the child walks slowly around the circle while the children sing a song. They stop at their birthday month again, and the teacher lights a candle for that year. It's very tangible, and makes the children feel very special. For Flynn the highlight is blowing out the candles at the end.
Flynn requested a Crazy Hair Day for his last day at Montessori. Here he is saying goodbye to Tania, who has taught all the of our boys there, and remembers when Flynn was born. It was a strange feeling for me, too, to be leaving Montessori after 6 years. The teachers even gave me a bunch of flowers!

The boys with Muriel, our ex-neighbour and Very Special Friend. Muriel has known all the boys since birth and she's an important part of our family.
Here's Flynn with his other Special Friend, Baz. Baz often holidays with us while his parents are out of town, and we just love having him.
