                                                SEPTEMBER 2002 NEWSLETTER

The general club meeting is set for Thursday September 12, 2002 at 7:30 p.m..  The meeting will be at  Commissioners room A 1200 Telegraph road Pontiac, MI.

Jonathan Oakes is maintaining our web site.  The address is http://www.geocities.com/michiganbassbusters/.  In the future he will e-mail all members, and we won’t mail out newsletters.  You can e-mail Jonathan any information or pictures to [email protected].

The  executive meetings are back at Ripples.  The next meeting is Tuesday September 24 at 7:00 pm.  Hope to see you there!

There was a standing motion passed last year regarding qualifications for the Harry Hoffman Classic.  You must fish a minimum of 3 tournaments.  If you don’t qualify, you may still fish, but you will not be eligible to receive money.

The Harry Hoffman Classic is designed to test your fishing skills.  We meet for breakfast.  The lake is revealed.  The top 10 and tournament winners are contestants.  The other fisherman are judges.  The contestant has complete control of the boat for the entire tournament.  The judges are not supposed to help the contestants.  There are 2 pots.  2/3 of the pot is split among the contestants, and the other 1/3 is for the judges.  The payouts are made at the banquet.  There is no rider fee for the judges.

The Showspan show will be held from January 29 - February 3.  The show has been moved to Ford Field.  Mark these days in your calendar.  This is how we raise most of our money!  We need a volunteer to coordinate the work schedule.

14 members will be fishing at the State Championship.  The club pays for the top 8.  The other 6 members need to pay the $100.00 by the August meeting.

We are looking for a banquet director.  You and your committee would coordinate all activities.  The banquet is normally held in late January.

River Watch Program.  National Security has asked for help of all boaters on the Great Lakes and connecting waters.  Watch for anything out of the ordinary:   fishing in unusual waters, diving & picture taking in odd places, or loading & unloading of goods or people.  Call 800-537-3220 to report.

There are off limit areas around Selfridge.  They are ½ mile out from shoreline.  There are small yellow buoys.  If you enter the zone, you will get 1 warning.  Penalty will be a fine or jail.

Some members were interested in new shirts and jackets.  We have 2 large shirts remaining.  They are $28.00.  Let Paul Sacks know at the meeting if you want a shirt.
