                                                MAY 2002 NEWSLETTER

The general club meeting is set for Thursday May 9, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.. this is where we will meet.  The meeting will be at  Commissioners room A 1200 Telegraph road Pontiac, MI.

Jonathan Oakes is maintaining our web site.  The address is http://www.geocities.com/michiganbassbusters/.  In the future he will e-mail all members, and we won’t mail out newsletters.  You can e-mail Jonathan any information or pictures to [email protected].

We will be signing up for the Kent Lake and Portage Lake tournaments.  Make sure your money and application is there at the meeting otherwise you can not fish! If you can not attend, have another member bring it to the meeting or call Ed at 248-926-1822.   The entry fee is $20.00 per tournament.  Make sure you give Ed Schiller a copy of your BASS card and boat owner's insurance.

People interested in joining MUCC should give me the money at the May meeting or mail to me. Dues are $15.00 per year.

Some members were interested in new shirts and jackets.  We ordered a few extra large and extra large shirts.  Let Paul Sacks know at the meeting if you want a shirt.  Bring patches you would like sewn onto the shirt to the meeting.

The 9:00 am Saturday morning breakfasts at Ripples are almost done.  These will probably be held weather permitting (bad weather only).  Otherwise, We will be fishing.

We are looking for members to help our junior bass club.  The next meeting is at the Waterford Gander Mountain 7:00 pm on Thursday May 16th.  See the end of newsletter for more details.

Following are highlights of the April Presidents’ Meeting:

Snack Daddy Lures will give discounts to federation members.  5% on orders between $200 - $499, 10% between $500 - $1000, and 20% above $1000.00.  Their web site is www.snackdaddylures.com.  They donated $300.00 in spinner baits to the youth program.

State Championship.  The Muskegon City Launch will be open this year.  Off-limits is the channel leading to the launch from the lake.  Anyone fishing a river must abide by the hook gap rules - no larger than 3/8” for treble hooks and no larger than 1/2” for single hooks.  The banquet is tentatively scheduled for Applause Banquet and Catering located in Norton Shores.

Keeping Bass Alive Publication.  You should use 1/3 cup of non-iodized salt per 5 gallons water in your live well to help protect the fish.  Many people use too much ice.  This can do more harm than good.  Water temperatures between the holding areas and the lake should be within 5 degrees of each other.

Discussion of the Largemouth Bass Virus.  We are encouraged to:  1.) Take fish to deeper water to release.  2.) Hold Golden Rule tournaments.  3.) Reduce tournament hours.  4.) Reduce bag limit.

Youth Activities.  There are 10 youth clubs with 125 members.
