MICHIGAN BASS BUSTERS OF OAKLAND COUNTY
AUGUST 2002 NEWSLETTER
The general club meeting is set for Thursday August 8, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.. The meeting will be at Commissioners room A 1200 Telegraph road Pontiac, MI.
Jonathan Oakes is maintaining our web site. The address is http://www.geocities.com/michiganbassbusters/. In the future he will e-mail all members, and we won’t mail out newsletters. You can e-mail Jonathan any information or pictures to [email protected].
The last executive meeting will be August 26 6:00 pm at my house 1179 Beach Drive Lake Orion, MI. Contact me for directions, 248-693-1482 (h), 313-475-7215 (c), or [email protected]. I need to know who is coming so I have enough boats.
We will be signing up for the Lower Detroit and Muskegon Lake tournaments. Make sure your money and application is there at the meeting otherwise you can not fish! If you can not attend, have another member bring it to the meeting or call Ed at 248-926-1822. The entry fee is $20.00 per tournament. Make sure you give Ed Schiller a copy of your BASS card and boat owner's insurance. Is there any interest to meet for breakfast before tournaments. Please voice your opinion at the meeting.
There was a standing motion passed last year regarding qualifications for the Harry Hoffman Classic. You must fish a minimum of 3 tournaments.
Rider’s fees should be discussed before launching the boat. If there are any problems, advise Ed Schiller. With the St. Clair and Lower Detroit tournaments coming up, make sure to talk to the boater to determine which licenses are needed, i.e. Canadian or Walpole. Make sure you contact your partner at least 1 week before a tournament to avoid surprises.
NBAA waives the membership dues for the last tournament of the season. You can fish either Wednesday August 21 on Fenton Lake or Tuesday September 3 on Lake St. Clair. The tournament is from 6:00 - 9:00 pm . The entry fee is $35.00 per boat and an optional $5.00 big bass pot. Hope to see you there!
The Showspan show will be held from January 29 - February 3. The show has been moved to Ford Field. Mark these days in your calendar. This is how we raise most of our money!
14 members will be fishing at the State Championship. The club pays for the top 8. The other 6 members need to pay the $100.00 by the August meeting.

River Watch Program. National Security has asked for help of all boaters on the Great Lakes and connecting waters. Watch for anything out of the ordinary: fishing in unusual waters, diving & picture taking in odd places, or loading & unloading of goods or people. Call 800-537-3220 to report.
I-68 & CANPASS are not needed if you do not anchor or touch land in Canadian waters. They should leave fisherman alone. Penalties if caught could be fines up to $500.00 and/or loss of boat and equipment.
There are off limit areas around Selfridge. They are ˝ mile out from shoreline. There are small yellow buoys. If you enter the zone, you will get 1 warning. Penalty will be a fine or jail.
Some members were interested in new shirts and jackets. We have 2 large shirts remaining. They are $28.00. Let Paul Sacks know at the meeting if you want a shirt. Bring money to the meeting if you purchased but have not paid for your clothing. We also have hats and patches available for sale.
We are looking for members to help our junior bass club. He is also looking for donations to the club, i.e. lures, rods, etc. Contact Don Schemanske if you can help. You can reach Don at 734-525-9408 (h), 734-776-8158 (c), or [email protected]. See the end of newsletter for more details.
