Altered Starcraft's Long Sad History

What about it? |

Some time in late May '99. |
Original release. For people who were wondering, I did in fact try to
have Zerg with 3X all stats, Protoss being free, and gave various starting
conditions. I realized that the Zerg were invincible with 3X all stats. The
Protoss being free created too many problems and cheap strategies. My eventual
decision was to make the Protoss have 1/10 all costs and Zerg 2X all stats. |

Early September '99. |
The Zerg starting with 2 overlords and 6 drones was too much of an advantage
(I never saw them lose). The Protoss Began to get far to good if no Zerg
were playing. I watered down the Zerg and Protoss starting conditions and
continued to deny the fact that the Protoss and Zerg were far to good. |
| 1.02 |
Late September '99 |
OK OK! I realize everybody that the Protoss are just too damn good! They
now have 1/5 all costs. Happy? The Terran starting conditions now involved
a little bit of gas. Protoss start conditions reduced to 50 minerals and
the Zerg now have 5 drones and 2 overlord start with 50 minerals and 100
gas. |

November '99 |
My most famous and played level. I think its because the shiny "+". The
Protoss were now a piece of crap race. So i altered them; the Protoss have
(I believe) 1/8 all costs and the game is almost fair. The Terrans have no
gas to start and the Zerg are left unchanged. If you are going to play a
non-current version, play this one. |

February '99 |
The legacy continues as the Protoss are still deemed "too damn buff."
The new emerald editor (which i have for quite a while) is implemented. The
Terrans get level 4 upgrades while the other races don't change (sorry biased
biased biased! They were my current choice race). The Protoss began to lose
(more often). |
| 1.04 |
Late March '99 |
Ooo! Here is an idea! My original concept was to have the Terrans dominate
early to mid game. The Protoss were to kill around mid to late game (as they
caught up to the Terran tech tree). The Zerg were supposed to be unbeatable
an hour into the game. I changed the max upgrades for each race to the
following: Terrans-3, Protoss-4, and Zerg-9!!!! The Zerg get level 9 units.
Is this fair? We will see soon enough. e-mail me if you feel this is unfair! |

March '99 (4 days later) |
CRAP!! I forgot that the stupid infested Terrans do only 100 damage (bug
that existed since the FIRST Altered Starcraft. I need to get hit. This is
the ONLY difference between 1.04 and 1.04+. Sorry Sorry! Please promptly
update your Altered Starcraft. The plus sign is there so that people will
say: "Oooo a plus sign, must join!" (like my version above). |

Well, sorry. No free Protoss! I discovered that free toss created
essentially 4 starting bases for all toss players. When I
decided to cut the starting number of probes, each probe still
made a new base with 200 pylons and gateways... unfair... uh, no? Lets see
what does this version have thats so great? No shiny "+" (sorry).
First the toss now have a max upgrade level of 5. The Zerg have
a max of 10. The starting conditions changed too. The Terrans now are more
tech oriented with a 50m 100g start. The Zerg start with the same,
and the Protoss get only 18 minerals to start (disabling immediate
virus-like map infecting -- expanding). The mission briefs and objectives
changed to include this web site address. Lets hope this is
the final installation of Altered Starcraft. |

Yes, its another damn recreation. I thought this
map was perfected, but, damn, I was wrong. The Terrans had an obvious
disadvantage late game, and I grew sick of it. Now, the Terrans have the
capability to reach level 5 upgrades. The Zerg were watered to level 5
also and the all powerful Protoss now only go to level 3 upgrades. The
start conditions were SLIGHTLY modified for all the races, mostly I
decreased the Terrans to 50 minerals and increased the Protoss to
22 minerals. Thats it. |

Damn. I feel dumb. I forgot to change a few of the mission briefing version numbers. Well, this is a minor bug and
is now corrected. |
