This Hackney colt is one month old. See how high he trots at this age already.   This is natural motion. It is bred into the Hackney Pony.

Please be patient, give this page time to load, it contains many pictures.
This Hackney Mare is being shown in "Fine Harness". The forlock is braided with ribbon and also the first strands of the mane.  The blinders on the bridle are round in shape. The vehicle is called a Viceroy. It has four wheels and a patent leather dash and side arms. The seat is velvet. They come in any color and are made of wood. They also come in Horse size.
The gaits of the Fine Harness class are Park Pace, and Show Your Pony. This gait is used to drive the pony on to display it at it's best pace. Speed should be penalized.

This Hackney Pony Mare is being driven in "Roadster". The blinders on the bridle are square. This is the difference in Fine Harness and Roadster bridles. Notice the lines are through a running martingale. This allows the reins to come straight from the ponies mouth to the driver. The vehicle is called a roadster bike. It has two wheels , stirrups for the drivers feet and a small leather seat. This bike is very light which gives the pony less to pull and therefore allows them to go much faster for the class. The gaits of the Roadster class are Jog Pace, Road Gait  and Show Speed. They must go fast, but still present the stylish upheaded look with motion.

This is a Cob-Tail Hackney, Gelding.
The tail of a Hackney is docked when they reach the hieght of 50 inches or more. This was done to prevent the tail from becoming tangled in the driving lines. The mane is also shortened and braided into small braids on top of the neck for the same reason as the tail is docked.  They are shown quite the same as a Fine Harness Pony.  They are divisioned as a "Hackney Pony". Harness and viceroy are the same.
