Higher Power

Higher Power was a Christian music group that served St. Mary's parish in Mt. Pleasant, MI from approximately October of 1995 to December of 1997. During those years, HP was known for its colorful additions to mass and the members expression for their love of the Lord. The group had members that came and went within its two-year life span, but the original group was co-founded by past CMU students Robert Osterman (at the time a vocalist and harmonica player, now also a guitarist) and Anthony Coggins (vocalist and guitarist). The group included vocalists accompanied by guitars, keyboard, drums, trumpet, clarinet, saxaphone, trombone, flute and eventually a bass guitar. The members of Higher Power were known for their close friendships, and although the group is no longer in existence and the members scattered across the country, many of the people that made up HP remain close. The group's career was highlighted by a concert in April of 1996, which is chronicaled through the link below.

In the summer of 1999 several of the members decided a reunion of the group was long overdue. On July 17, 1999, seven members of the original and second year group returned to Mt. Pleasant for an afternoon of reminicsing and to play one more mass at St. Mary's. The reunion went over well, and it was decided that it should become an annual event.

July 2000 brought the most recent reunion of Higher Power. It was celebrated in Bay City, MI, where the members spent the day in the pool and enjoying karaoke. This reunion had brought with it many changes in the Higher Power family - kids, a marriage and several engagements. As Higher Power's extended family grows, so does their love of praising the Lord through music, and their example of lasting friendships despite the trials that life brings.
