1984
When we all started junior high together disco was still big--remember those satin baseball jackets, tight satin pants, mesh neck scarves, peasant blouses and skirts?  Bo Derek's cornrows?  Three's Company, Mork and Mindy, Happy Days?  We girls all rolled our Jordache jeans up to reveal our high heel boots.  Jewelry with our initials--stick pins, necklaces, and earrings--were big.  Every girl had Lip Smackers and wore Love's Baby Soft.   The Bee Gees were still hot, Tom Petty was cool, Pink Floyd was even cooler, and Stairway to Heaven was always the final song at our dances.  Some of us (not saying who!!) tried pot and drank for the first time.   Many more of us received our first kiss (and subsequent marathon make-out sessions--remember those?!).  Our naivete in 7th grade was quickly replaced by a sense of cool, know-it-all attitude in 9th grade.  Then we entered high school.
High school was the ultimate eye opener and most of us did a lot of growing up pretty quickly.  Styles were changing, new music and technology was emerging, and our choices and decisions suddenly took on new meaning.  We had cars, the drinking age was 18 and a lot of us could "pass" to buy alcohol--which we bought a lot of!! Most of us finally let go of our junior high insecurities, "girl squabbles" (boy, we girls could be mean to each other!), and silly, childish behavior.  We were cool (yeah, right---love those horrible colors and geometric shapes we girls were wearing--what were we thinking??). But, we had fun and created a lot of great memories and friendships, some of which will last a lifetime.  Here's to the 80's!
