This is the shortest 2di in the continental United States. (Only Interstates H2 and H3 in Hawaii are shorter, but they have an excuse for being located on an island.)
I-97 has sparked some controversy among road fans. Some feel that this should be an extension of either I-70 or I-83, while others think that it should've been called I-995.
I-97 might be extended down the US 301 corridor to at least Richmond, VA.
