I-83 in Baltimore is known as the Jones Falls Expressway. North of the city, it is called the Harrisburg Expressway (due to the fact that I-83 goes to the Pennsylvania state capital).
There are plans to extend I-83 in both directions: I-83 could possibly extend north to Rochester, NY instead of I-99. The reason for I-83's preference over I-99 is because Rochester would rather connect to larger cities like Harrisburg and Baltimore than it would Altoona and Bedford (which are served by I-99). Also, a southward extension would follow the US 29 corridor to Greensboro, NC and create an Interstate alternative between I-81 and I-95 in Virginia.
