I-57 serves as a bypass route between southeastern Missouri, St. Louis and Chicago.
At its southern terminus, I-57 runs into US 60. Missouri wants to extend the I-57 designation west on US 60 and south on US 67, but that conflicts with Arkansas' plans to extend I-30 north of Little Rock.
