North Carolina wants to extend I-20 to Wilmington from Florence, SC. It would follow US 76 from Florence to Whiteville, NC, and then follow US 74 into Wilmington. While this extension has received considerable support among the communites in the southeastern part of the state, South Carolina says it has no plans of upgrading its portion of US 76 into an Interstate.
