Notes for Carl Friederick Wilhelm Schelle

From the family records of Kurt Otto Shelle, Jr:

Carl went by "Friedrich Wilhelm" most of the time. His birth record says "Carl Friedrich Wilhelm". His marriage record says "Carl Friedrich", and other references, including his death notice, say "Friedrich Wilhelm". Apparently he was a career soldiear and was a non-commissioned officer in the 8th Infantry (bodyguard) regiment-Garrison Company. We can only speculate if any connection existed between his mother being in the personal service of the wife of Lieutenent General Von Meyringa and his military assignment. The general may have been the commanding officer of the 8th Infantry regiment. Upon Car's retirement from the military or discharge for health reasons, whichever it was, he became the "Dammeister Zu Peitz". His job title was Konigs Dammeister, or Kings Dammaster. Dammaster was probably a political appointment for his military service. He died at Peitz at the age of 47 of Cirrhosis of the liver.
